TRUST COMMITTED TO EQUALITY

Through working with Suffolk New College’s Centre of Equality and Diversity, Ipswich Town Community Trust has become the first organisation in Suffolk to win the ‘Committed to Equality’ (C2E) status.

The programme helps organisations to evaluate and improve their policies and practices in respect of the diversity of their workforce and the way they interact with their employer. It also takes into account the equality and diversity work of the Trust and enables it to improve year-on-year.

C2E work to help organisation comply with the new Equalities Act which comes into force later this year when negotiating contractual agreements and buying materials. It provides a kite mark for an organisation to promote its commitment to equality and diversity.

Sarah Adams, Director of the Centre for Equality and Diversity said: “It is really exciting to have had such a high-profile organisation as our first client. Their experience shows that for most organisations achieving this standard is straightforward and delivers real advantages to them.”

Terry Baxter, Chief Executive Officer ITCT said: “The Trust has always been committed to ensuring that we have a diverse staff complement, all the members of which are treated equally. Working to achieve this standard has helped us to look at all our policies systematically and where necessary amend them to make sure we comply with the latest legislation. The process has been extremely easy, and we believe that it will be a real benefit to our staff and to the Trust as a whole.”

Community Trust Funding and Sponsorship Manager, Carolyn Shaw went to accept the award on behalf of the Trust.
