Ipswich Town Community Trust would like to invite you to a day of football celebrating the World Cup - here on your doorstep.
Ipswich Town Community Trust is looking for football teams of different racial and cultural backgrounds to enter into the One Community Cup football tournament. Those involved will compete for the ‘One Community World Cup’. The competition is part of the football club and Trust’s strong stance against racism and efforts to bring local communities together.
In total 18 teams from around the world took part in last year’s adult male 5-a-side tournament including Togo, Kurdistan, Kenya, England, Portugal, India, Bangladesh, Albania and Poland. The tournament lasted all day and saw over 144 players compete to become the tournament winners.
Carolyn Shaw, Active Projects Manager for Ipswich Town Community Trust said, “Football has a universal language and has the power to bring people together. The ‘One Community Cup’ will unite the diverse communities of our county for a really fantastic day of football. ”
Chris Isted, Competition Organiser last year, said “Events such as this give an opportunity for barriers and stereotypes associated with different cultures to be broken down. It helps keep the local spirit of the community going and gives those involved the chance to meet others outside their own community.”
