The Player Development Centres are aimed at individual player development and was established in order to ensure that all players develop in a rounded way and to the very best of their ability. The programme includes all aspects of the game with participants invited to join the scheme as a result of showing a particular aptitude and attitude.

Project Outline

The Player Development Centres are aimed at individual player development and was established in order to ensure that all players develop in a rounded way and to the very best of their ability. The programme includes all aspects of the game with participants invited to join the scheme as a result of showing a particular aptitude and attitude.

The Player Development Centres enjoy a strong relationship with the ITFC Academy and will on all occasions support each player's development ensuring they progress to their highest level.

The one-hour player development sessions are delivered by both qualified Trust coaches and Academy coaches, who will aim to progress each player to the highest level of individual development, through the provision of skills workshops and practical, match/game based situations. The sessions are each clearly focused and expectations of work rates are set high from each player.

The programme works in 15 week blocks; with a total of 2 blocks per season with continuous assessment by the coaches and by ITFC scouts. In the 8th week of each term players will have an assessment week to determine whether they progress to the next term of training.

There is movement on and off the programme with players released being welcomed back to participate in other community initiatives. We recognise that this may cause a level of disappointment for those released, however we feel that this is the fairest way in order to ensure only the highest standard of footballers are representing Ipswich Town Football Club against local opposition.

There are matches throughout the season with players aiming to be selected against other PDC centres from other Pro Clubs. There are also internal match nights and visits from local clubs during the programme.

BALL BOYS AND GIRLS

Upon the request of previous ITFC Manager Jim Magilton, all Under 15 players are invited to become Ball Boys for all home First team fixtures and all Under 14 players will be invited to become Ball Boys for all home Reserve fixtures. This provides a unique opportunity for additional player development by observing professional players in match situations.
